Elevating your colorado style with 1876 lodgepole

The Origins of 1876 Lodgepole

You've probably been seeing a lot about our new 1876 Lodgepole Collection. We're really proud of it... After all, it took years to get all of the details just right. But, just how exactly did we get here, to the point that we're ready to release eight new luxury Colorado apparel items, home goods, and accessories?

More than three years ago, we were looking around at all of the great Colorado gear that we make (and probably enjoying a whiskey or two), when someone mentioned how it was a shame they couldn’t wear any of our tees, hoodies, hats, jackets, etc. to work the next day. Then, someone else mentioned that it was also too bad they couldn’t wear it on a date they had coming up.

The conversation quickly turned to us wondering where we might find some awesome local Colorado gear that was elevated enough to wear on occasions that are a little more special than the every day. We were looking for clothing with high style and superior quality - clothing that wasn't just clothing, but that actually said something about its wearer. We looked around our local Colorado clothing market, and found almost nothing around to fill that need.

That’s the moment that the idea behind 1876 Lodgepole was born. We thought, "Why Not Us?" It was a great idea in the moment, and we got to work - for years. It took us all this time to get here because we had to do it right. If we were going to launch an entire line of elevated Colorado apparel, accessories, and home goods, they actually had to be elevated; They had to be the most luxury and most sophisticated Colorado items out there.

Why Did We Pick the Lodgepole Pine to Represent Our New Collection?

So where did we start this journey towards a complete line of luxury Colorado items? The first step was to find a symbol that would stand the test of time and speak accurately to what the line represented. We picked The Lodgepole Pine.

The Lodgepole Pine (or pinus contorta) is native to Colorado, just like 1876. It’s almost never found in low-altitude areas, or places with a lot of clouds and rain, just like all of us that live in The State of Exploration. It is an evergreen, never shedding its leaves, and thriving as much in the brilliant, snowy Rocky Mountain winter as it does in the bright blue Colorado summer…We can all relate to that.

However, it also had one defining characteristic that lead to it being the face we chose to represent our luxury collection: Its pure strength and iconic durability. Not only is 1876 Lodgepole defined by the absolute finest quality, style, and materials, it will also stand up to the test of time, just as the pine does, weathering season after season without losing its confident stature.

The name “Lodgepole” came from the Native American’s use of the pine to construct their tipi shelters, but explorers headed west also found it to be just as valuable in constructing cabins and other structures. The Lodgepole Pine is unusually durable, straight, and tall. It’s an iconic and enduring symbol of The State of Exploration - and we expect that the 1876 Lodgepole items will become so as well.

What Can You Expect from 1876 Lodgepole?

We have a lot to live up to in choosing this icon of The State of Exploration, and it’s not something we take lightly. Our promise to you is that every piece in the 1876 Lodgepole collection will represent that symbol through the highest quality, finest materials, luxurious finishes, and unflinchingly confident style.

Over the coming months, we'll be releasing eight new items that you can't find anywhere else. These items are completely unique to Colorado and to 1876 Apparel, and keep with the promise of uncompromising quality, luxury, and high style.

How do we achieve this luxurious quality? We've spent years sourcing fabrics, revisiting designs over and over, and researching what the local Colorado clothing and accessory market is missing. We've put our blood, sweat, and tears into this collection, and you'll be able to feel the effort the second you don your first 1876 Lodgepole item.
